This was perfect. I can't even start reading a new book tonight because this one needs to stay fresh in my mind for a little while. -- Amazon ReviewerMy guy best friend needs a best man, and he’s asking me—a girl. Not that I’m surprised. We’ve been inseparable since birth. Who else was he going to ask?Juggling this wedding and being a single mom is going to be a feat. But I got this. All is rolling smoothly until my friends shake up another tradition. Seems the bride is asking a guy to be her maid of honor. And not just any guy either. Her brother. My ex. Unfortunately, this guy is hot as hell. He’s also a demon that crawled right out of those fiery pits. The same pits he sent our relationship to when he chose the military over me.Now he’s back. As an underwear model, no less. How in the world they expect us to work together is beyond me. But for them, I’d do just about anything. Even jack up my perfect life that took me years to put back together. I’m immune to this jerk now. I’m not letting him back in. All I have to do is work with him for one month. One month to keep my legs shut, my pants up, and my eyes and hands to myself. It’ll be easy, right?Unless he shows off the goods. Then I’m in trouble. Every good girl deserves a bad boy. ~ Weston

Book Showing off the Goods Review :

It Is Difficult To See How Pax Might Redeem Himself In Colette’s Eyes, But Be Patient. Pax Is Larger Than Life & Loved By All, Yet Leaving Colette Behind To Return To His Playboy Ways Hardly Seems Forgivable. But There Are Two Sides To Every Story. After twelve years of dating, Brett and Tierra are getting married. Brett had been avoiding the inevitable for years, but at thirty-one he finally took the initiative to ask for Tierra’s hand in a spur of the moment decision. As they begin to make plans for their nuptials, they quickly recognize the potential for some drama on their special day. Brett’s choice of best man is not exactly conventional. He and Colette have been best friends since they were young. Their mothers were best friends too, and she has always felt more like a sister to him. Tierra’s parents passed away years ago, so she wants her brother Paxton to walk her down the isle and stand up for her as her man of honor. Paxton and Colette are not strangers, but they haven’t spoken in over a decade. Paxton had walked out on Colette when he suddenly enlisted in the Army, leaving her with a broken heart and shattered dreams. Despite the time that has passed, Brett and Tierra predict that a reunion might be explosive. Having the pair come face to face again is sure to bring up bitter memories and unpleasant emotions. Brett and Tierra had done their best to keep Paxton and Colette separated over the years, but a truce of sorts will be unavoidable if they are all to survive the wedding day. To stave off any wedding day surprises, the bride and groom give Pax and Colette some time to get used to the idea of behaving nicely by enlisting their help with planning the wedding.Paxton Alexander Gould, thirty, lives for fun and cannot help but be defiant. He loves to push the envelope, though he can tone it back when necessary. Some might call him a man-child. A male model known best for his appearances in underwear ads, his career has skyrocketed him to the top of his field. It is never boring working on set with Paxton, who sometimes tests the patience of the photographers and directors he works with. Even so, nobody can resist his charismatic presence and he is universally loved. He learned to tamp down the natural jokester inside during his five years in the Army, and picked up some organizational skills and a sense of responsibility as well. He saw some ugly things in those years, but these days he eschews anything serious. Back in San Diego, his work keeps a steady line of beautiful women pining for him. Whether at the end of shoot or at an industry party, he doesn’t hesitate to mix business with pleasure. He is a playboy through and through. His sister Tierra might be three years younger than him, but she is the more responsible one, often keeping tabs on him. She reminds him more of his mother. It was after he left for the military that their parents died together in an accident, and ever since the two of them have been close. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. Brett is a good man – he was Pax’s friend and Tierra’s childhood crush. Throughout high school Paxton had been tight with Brett and his best friend Colette. The three had a lot of fun together; Pax and Bret had been big players. But once Brett set his sights on Tierra he only had eyes for her. Though Brett had taken his time in proposing, they have stuck it out all these years. Once upon a time Pax had thought he would have been settled down already. He and Colette had fallen hard their senior year of high school, and their friendship had become so much more. But Paxton was always a player at heart, and Colette’s dreams just weren’t for him. So instead of heading off for college, he signed up for the Army and left San Diego behind.Dr. Colette Abigail Wynne, thirty, is doing pretty well for herself. With her psychiatry residency behind, a private practice in San Diego, and her student loans now paid in full, she can finally start thinking about the future. For her, that means putting some money away for April, her three year old daughter. Being a single mom is challenging, but Colette finds balance by making quality time at the end of the day. April’s father was never in the picture; Andrew split when he heard the news about the pregnancy. He had lofty goals that included travel and the good life, and didn’t want to be weighed down with baggage. Though Colette mourns the loss for her daughter, her own heart had soon recovered. After living through Paxton’s sudden disappearance from her life, which had been difficult to accept and took years to get over, she had adopted a more realistic view of love. She had been so convinced that Pax was her forever, but she no longer believes in fairy tales or happily ever afters. Andrew had been a good partner, but she knew they had no future. But he had given her April, and for that she would always be thankful. April brings so much happiness into Colette’s life, that she cannot imagine her life any other way. Life has been busy since April was born, and she hasn’t had time for a man in years. When Pax and Colette meet Brett and Tierra for dinner, neither expects to see the other. The meeting is awkward to say the least, but Brett and Tierra manage to guilt the pair into cooperating. With just a month to plan the wedding of Tierra’s dreams, they have a near impossible task ahead. Working hand in hand to nail down every detail, Pax and Colette soon forge a working relationship. As they recapture some of their easy friendship, though, their feelings become confused. April takes quickly to Paxton, which sets off Colette’s concerns. She longs for a steady father figure for April, but Pax has a history of running away. Even is she feels drawn to Pax herself, it is a risk she can not afford for April. As they work to put the wedding together and navigate through their discomfort, their decade apart is a real divide. But is the unresolved past and their unspoken words that really keep the pair at odds. Their explosive end left them both without the closure they needed. The couple eventually finds a very happy ending. There are a few issues that merit mention. The timelines don’t always make sense or match up. It can slow down anyone that pays attention to the details. I lay it out here to save readers the time of trying to make sense of it themselves. First, Paxton’s age is never given, and neither is Tierra’s. We know there is a three year difference. Paxton is apparently the same age as Colette since they were both nineteen and fresh out of high school together. That puts him at thirty and Tierra twenty-seven. Brett, Colette, and Pax all three graduated together since we know that Colette and Brett were in the same year and that Colette and Pax had graduated together. I presume Brett, Pax, and Colette were in their senior year when Tierra was a freshman – a three year difference with Pax puts her there.Second, at thirty-one, Brett would have begun dating Tierra when he was nineteen (twelve years earlier). Most kids graduate high school around seventeen or eighteen, so it doesn’t make sense that he and Tierra were high school sweethearts. She would have been in high school, yes, but not him when they began dating.Third, back to the fact that most high schoolers graduate at age seventeen or eighteen. We have both Pax and Colette at nineteen right after graduation, which doesn’t feel right. Incidentally, that would make Brett twenty at graduation.Fourth, there are inconsistent references to how long Pax and Colette went without talking – more than a decade or under a decade. But again, a decade ago they were twenty. Not nineteen as stated (or seventeen or eighteen which would make more sense). For a while I kept waiting to see what happened for the year or two between graduation and Pax enlisting, but it later became obvious that it happened fairly soon after graduation.Fifth, as for Colette, if she had no gap years, it would normally be expected that it would take four years to get her MD. The psychiatry residency is another four years. If Colette had graduated at seventeen, that would put her at twenty-nine to finish her residency (at which time she could set up her private practice). Unless she got some scholarships it is unlikely that she would have paid off her student loans since she would have barely scraped by on fifty thousand per year during her residency years, and the bulk of her several hundred thousand dollars in outstanding student loans would remain. Finally, ten years is a long time for Pax and Colette to avoid one another; it felt too long. Particularly since they both live in San Diego and have shared friends. Brett and Tierra were involved with both of them the entire time. I would have expected Tierra to have taken some initiative to mend fences since she had insight into both, and maybe even try to play cupid with them somewhere along the way, at least by the time Pax got out of the service. She knew him well and would have been able to have her conversation with him years earlier.Paxton and Colette’s story is a second chance romance that will have you reaching for the tissues. It is difficult to see how Pax might redeem himself in Colette’s eyes, but be patient. Pax is larger than life and loved by all, yet leaving Colette behind to return to his playboy ways hardly seems forgivable. But there are two sides to every story, and that is very much the case here. Their story pulls you in – it is easy to root for the couple’s happy ending. Little April is a doll, and Pax’s relationship with her is moving. The story is nicely written, though there are timeline issues with the ARC version. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are carefully crafted and realistic. The story is written first person. The POV alternates between Paxton and Colette. I rate this book four stars.I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I picked a quote (in my headline)- Paxton was talking to (Tierra- his sister) when he was about to walk her down the aisle. It was such a sweet moment that I thought I'd memorialize it.This was an absolute pleasure to read. I'm just getting into the second chance romance. I hate the "break up". But luckily it wasn't written that way. I couldn't imagine being with a mate 10 years later. My husband, well now he is my ex-husband, were together for 27 years (married for 20). He decided one day he didn't want to be married anymore and divorced me. I was left shattered and broken. I loved him. So I can't imagine finding him again and falling back in love. I'll never say never but in this moment, I don't want it to happen. I am happy now.The only thing that would make this story better would be if April (Colette's daughter) called Paxton, daddy. That would definitely had made me cry. But I will admit (freely) that I did tear up when Paxton danced with April. It filled my heart with love and happiness. It was the sweetest moment.I LOVED Colette and Paxton together. I loved their relationship. Even though Colette tried really hard to block Paxton out. It was short lived. There was no drama. There was no back and forth. There was no misleading circumstances. And I am thankful that Paxton didn't have relations with the girl in the beginning. I personally don't like when the H is with another woman sexually, even if it's before he meets the h. I usually skip those parts. I believe it's not needed.I really enjoyed this book. It was written smoothly and with care. I don't think I'd change anything about this story.
